Why I joined--and stayed

In 1952 an Air Force lieutenant-colonel economics professor at West Point gave us first-classmen (seniors) some good financial advice. Make and follow a budget, save every month, don't buy a car with a V-8 engine--a six is big enough and it will cost lots less in the long run. Finally, insure that nice new shiny car with USAA. Took his advice and for 57 years I've never regretted it. USAA is family, always there, honest as the day is long, totally understanding and compassionate. Colonel McDermott steered us right as cadets, and the company he ultimately nurtured and grew for all of us has never let us down.
