If your home or car has been damaged by heavy rain, strong winds or flooding due to a hurricane, here are the best ways to contact USAA to file a claim and start recovering.
Report a claim on your mobile phone.
Use the USAA Mobile App to start the claims process. If you don’t have access to a mobile phone, visit usaa.com/help to report your claim. You can also call 800-531-8722.
Check the status of your claim on the USAA Mobile App or online.
USAA prioritizes inspections by the severity of the damage to the insured properties. An adjuster will come out as soon as possible. After you file a claim, the adjuster will keep you notified of the status of your claim in the Claims Communication Center, available online and in the mobile app.
Document damage before making repairs.
Take reasonable steps to protect your property from further damage, but don’t make permanent repairs until a claims adjuster has assessed the damage. Be sure to photograph debris or damaged property before having it removed or repaired. Save receipts for what you spend, and submit them to your USAA adjuster for reimbursement consideration.
If you need to relocate temporarily, save your receipts.
Homeowners insurance policies generally provide coverage for additional living expenses if you have covered damage and have to leave your home, so keep records of all expenses during this time. Review your policy coverage online at “My Documents” to see the extent of this kind of coverage and how long it will last. It’s important to review and update your contact information online as well, especially if it will change temporarily.
Beware of fraudsters.
Contractors who ask for a large amount of money upfront or provide very low bids might cut corners and leave you with problems after they're gone.
