The U.S. National Guard Celebrates its 382nd Birthday: 9 Great Moments in History

Ever since militia regiments in Massachusetts formed the National Guard in 1636, it has been called into service at a moment’s notice. From the Revolutionary War to World War II to Hurricane Katrina – and most recently in response to the fires blazing across California – the National Guard has been answering the call when the nation needs it most.


At USAA, 396 employees – or eight percent of veterans across USAA – are serving or have served in the National Guard.
