The annual FORTUNE®100 Best Companies to Work For® list is a big deal, and our 35 ranking this year is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to the USAA employee experience.
True to USAA style, employees were candid about what's great about USAA and where we have some work to do. They answered questions about the quality of communication by managers, the degree of support for employees' personal and professional lives and the authenticity of relationships with colleagues.
"Providing our members the world-class service they deserve requires we have superior employees," said USAA CEO Stuart Parker. "We continuously invest in our employees and provide them the resources needed to fulfill our mission and stand behind our members when they need us. This recognition is as much about the everyday effort of our employees as it is the culture we strive to create."
There are six categories that determine the Fortune ranking: Challenges, Atmosphere, Rewards, Pride, Communications and Bosses. Employees’ detailed feedback, which resulted in a 94 percent and above positive rating in each category, reveals things we do well as an enterprise and more importantly, it highlights areas where we can improve.
Where Does USAA Excel as a Workplace?
Of the six major categories, USAA scored highest in "Great Pride." Employees surveyed felt positive about our commitment to the military community and proudly tell others they work at USAA.
"Working at USAA is not work, it's a career in serving others," says Holly Valenzuela, Financial Advisor at the Phoenix campus. "Whether serving our membership or volunteering in our communities USAA makes service a priority. For instance, volunteerism at USAA is not only encouraged it is made possible by the company-paid volunteer hours we receive. Being given this time reinforces daily why I chose to serve in the military and why I choose to serve today as a USAA professional."
