You have finally found a babysitter who can keep your kids from fighting and makes a mean peanut butter and jelly...your dog sitter has taught your dog some fabulous new tricks - like NOT to bark! Then...there are orders, a PCS and you have to move away from the fabulous people you have found to make your hectic life easier. Fear not! I had the pleasure of meeting Katrina Kibben, Social Media Manager at Care.com and learned about their services. I have to admit, the more I learned about Care.com the more excited I was to share it with others! Finding a new babysitter will be easier than you think!
Katrina was kind enough to answer some questions about Care.com:
Can you share with our readers a little history of Care.com and what services it provides?
Care.com was founded in 2006 by our CEO, Sheila Marcelo. As a mom of 2 kids (and 2 dogs), she was having a hard time finding care she thought was reliable and safe. Given Sheila's professional background and experience, she started thinking about a consumer Internet business that could help families avoid the suffering and frustration she went through. As the company has grown, we've gathered a team of mothers, fathers, pet owners, sons, daughters, and grandchildren who really understand the difficulties and struggles families face when trying to find the right care and services for your families, yourself, and your home.
What are some of the issues military spouses run into when trying to find child care?
As an army brat, I know these issues all too well. We know part of being in the military is moving. As these families move, the only way to stay sane is to build new support networks and that includes care networks - people who can help when you have an emergency and the kids need someone to watch them or something as simple as planning a vacation and finding a dog watcher. But let's face it - it's not easy to find those people and emergencies don't happen at a perfect moment when everything is planned.
Operation Enduring Freedom has added another level of complexity. Families are left to figure it out while their soldier is deployed and they need a helping hand. That's where we step in to support this community. We provide a database of care providers throughout the U.S. that are seeking care jobs including childcare, pet care, senior care and more. Then, we do the leg work on the safety side with unlimited background checks and a Mom Force (that includes quite a few military spouses!) that personally review every profile. We even record references from other Care.com members so you can learn more before ever sending an e-mail.
I am not only impressed with the services they provide (a trusted resource to find child care, special needs care, tutoring, senior care, pet care, housekeeping and more), but with their devotion to military families. Here are some my favorite resources Care.com provides:
