I took a walk around my neighborhood yesterday and noticed many of my neighbors have left their Christmas decorations up - hello it's mid January!? However, I cannot blame them; I like to go straight from holiday decorations to the red and pink decorations for Valentines Day! I think for many, the end of the holiday season signals a time of what I call "the post holiday blues". I think it is completely normal to feel a bit sad when all of your family goes back home, the Christmas cards filled with joy no longer fill your mailbox and all the rich delicious foods of the season are swapped for healthy choices! All you are left with is cold, often depressing weather. Here are some ways to keep those blues away!

This is the most obvious and most expensive option: take a vacation! Many tropical destinations offer winter discounts, and this will give you a chance to relax, catch up on sleep lost from all the holiday hosting you did and bonus - get some vitamin D! Check discount sites like Groupon and Living Social for vacation package deals. You can also use Expedia or Kayak to search for vacations by type or destination. If a vacation is not in your budget, you can always create your own getaway! Invite some friends over, make margaritas or a virgin tropical drink, light a coconut candle and crank up the heat!

Be active! Take part in some winter sports, skiing, snow boarding, ice skating, sledding or good old fashion snow ball fight! If the weather is to frightful, head to an indoor gym or an indoor activity center to rock climb, play basketball, etc.

Stay busy! Whether that is taking up a new hobby, reading, writing, or planting a winter garden, do something to keep your mind off the winter and cold weather outside! Set aside some time each day to do something that makes you happy.

Lastly, stay in touch! Part of the joy of the holidays comes from the loved ones you spend it with. Send a card to a friend just to let them know you are thinking about them, or call a family member just to say hello. Set up dates, dinners and outings with friends and family. You will be amazed how having a get together to look forward to can brighten your whole week.
