USAA Community Roadside Assistance FAQ.jpg

There are two types of drivers. One, like myself, who views the low fuel light on their dashboard as a friendly reminder and another like my husband who fills his tank even before the light has a chance to illuminate. I should have known that my rogue ways of testing how accurate my “miles until empty” car gauge performed would catch up with me…

In this post, we are taking a closer look at top questions in community regarding USAA’s Roadside Assistance. We hope this help you understand the service and provide information in the case you too have the need for some aid on the road.

Here are the services available with Roadside Assistance:

If I needed to get gas for my car do I have to have money for it at the time or how does that work?

Roadside Assistance will pay for the fuel to be delivered to your location; however, it will not pay for the actual cost of the fuel.

If I loaned my vehicle to my Dad to use and something happened that required roadside assitance would he be covered if I was not in the vehicle?

MGriz, Great question! The coverage would be specific to the vehicle, not the driver, so if the vehicle had roadside assistance coverage and a permissive user (your Dad) was driving the vehicle, coverage would still apply. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. ~Danielle

My first and only experience with USAA's roadside assistance was not good. In fact, it did not work at all. I had a tire begin unraveling on the freeway and was able to limp to an exit. I pulled into a gas station and attempted to call USAA for assistance. I was using my cellphone and my car is equipped with handsfree phone service. I did not have my USAA password to log onto the website or anything with the d*mn phone number for roadside assistance with me. I had my insurance card with a USAA phone number, so I called that.  I had to go through the extremely long phone menu idiocy several times and NEVER DID GET CONNECTED TO AGERO! I kept getting put on hold and while waiting for Agero to answer or send a message or something, the phone kept timing out and disconnecting.  I finally just gave up and had to limp to a tire shop that just happened to be only a mile or so away and got a new set of tires put on my car. If I had been out in the middle of West Texas, I WOULD STILL BE THERE STRANDED.  All this internet app cr*p is great, when it works, but when it doesn't you may as well be holding a brick in your hand.

If I call RSA for a flat tire, does USAA report it to C.L.U.E, the Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange, as an at fault claim?  This is common when roadside assistance is purchased thru insurance companies.  So, does USAA do this?

Hello @jessayin, I apologize that you had such a hard time making connections with roadside.  We offer two ways to schedule roadside:  by phone or online through the app.  If do not have the app downloaded to your phone I encourage you to take a  moment and do so.  The app is SUPER easy and walks you step-by-step through the process.   If you are experiencing issues logging on to the website (as you mentioned in your post), you may need to speak with one of my insurance colleagues who can walk you through everything. - Ina
