USAA Community Roadside Assistance FAQ.jpg

There are two types of drivers. One, like myself, who views the low fuel light on their dashboard as a friendly reminder and another like my husband who fills his tank even before the light has a chance to illuminate. I should have known that my rogue ways of testing how accurate my “miles until empty” car gauge performed would catch up with me…

In this post, we are taking a closer look at top questions in community regarding USAA’s Roadside Assistance. We hope this help you understand the service and provide information in the case you too have the need for some aid on the road.

Here are the services available with Roadside Assistance:

Question on towing coverage. My car had to be towed this morning because a flat tire they couldn't replace roadside. However, my car died (all electrical systems quit) at a friend's home (almost didn't make it there) tonight. It is a Honda Hybrid and I really need it towed to a Honda dealership 60 miles away because the nearest repair shop is not going to be able to fix a Hybrid (I live in a very rural area). Will my roadside assistance cover that?

Good morning @Covious, thank you for your patience and hope you were able to get your car towed last night.  If you have towing on your policy, you may be able to get it towed to the required shop for repairs.  To better assist you in claim inquiry about what is covered, please reach out to our Claims representatives @ 800-531-8722 or you can initiate the towing claim on USAA.com or through the mobile app.  Each option will get you the assistance that is needed.  Thank you for your membership and trusting USAA in your auto insurance needs.  ~ Marco

I had a need for roadside service for a car that would no longer run.   All the elements of the service worked great until the very of the process - arranging the service, timeliness of the service, and friendliness and professionalism of the tow operator when he picked up the vehicle.  He said he would deliver the vehicle to the repair facility and that I did not need to follow.  I said that was great and that I would call the repair facility to tell them the vehicle would arrive soon.  About an hour and a half later, the repair facility called and said they had the car, with the key on the front seat.  Apparently, the tow operator simply dropped the vehicle off, put the key on the seat and left, without informing the repair facility he had left the vehicle there.

@KP6, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.  I am sorry to hear about the communication breakdown with the towing provider and the repair shop.  I have shared your experience with our claims partners.  They will research further and follow up with you as well.  Thanks ~ Robert.

So RSA applies if a rental car breaks down. Is this only within the USA? What about while traveling abroad?
