The Crooks house is full of girls - my poor husband. We have two daughters. I'll admit we're all divas. We love to spend some time at the spa or nail salon. We all love to get our hair done. Who doesn't? Well, boys, but that's a given.
When I take the girls to the spa its wonderful mother-daughter time; time to relax, time to chat, and time to feel pampered. Unfortunately, it's also time to fork out a couple hundred bucks. It takes no time at all to rack up a bill when you have three girls being serviced in a salon. I love this outing with my girls and just because we can't do it all the time I didn't want to lose the bonding and girly time with them.
Last weekend we decided to do an "at home day spa" day. I will admit the "pamper" factor wasn't the same as someone else taking care of you because we did have to do each other's treatments but it was much more inexpensive than going to the spa and we had a ton of fun discovering new ways that we could use regular household products for our beauty treatments.
Here are some of the things we made so you can do them in your own home:
Homemade Oatmeal Face Mask
1 tsp. honey
Enough buttermilk to make a paste
Mix together, apply to the face (not eye area), and allow to dry. Rinse with cool water.
*My girls love to put cucumbers over their eyes. This is a special thing they always see in the spa pictures but they really don't do at spas. We make it our "at home" spa treat.
Homemade Sugar Foot Scrub
3 cups white sugar
1 cup and 2 Tbsp. good quality oil
10 drops of yummy-scented essential oil per jar (I went with peppermint)
Combine the ingredients and scrub away!
If you have a foot bath/massager you can use that for your pedicures. We did so we utilized it but you could just as easily use the bathtub or a bucket of warm water to soak. We used plastic bowls for our manicures. We have tons of polish from Christmas stocking stuffers so we picked what we wanted to do and painted each other's nails after our mani/pedi session. Did you know rather than spray quick-dry oil on your nails you can use original (unflavored) cooking spray instead? I thought you might like that tip and it makes for a perfect polish.
I hope this inspires you to share some pampering time with your family. I tease about us all being girly but even brothers and daddies like massages!
