As winter fast approaches, many Americans seek a sunny destination to bring their families for fun, relaxation and adventure. Most are familiar with Orlando; home to the world’s best theme parks, according to 2015 TripAdvisor. Whether you've been there before and want to go again or have always been curious - there are some great deals and discounts offered for military members, not to be missed, when planning your stay.

Now's the time of year to be booking flights. If it's already something that you've been shopping for you may have already been pleasantly suprised at the low fares lately. The true (but maybe tired) booking engines like Expedia and Kayak are useful - but make sure to compare and shop around directly on airline websites and explore newer sites like Hipmunk

A lof of people assume that going to Orlando for the theme parks means staying on Disney properties. But is there something better, and cheaper? Disney package deals and group discounts are alluring, not to mention accessibility to Disney World. The biggest, overlooked issues that families face however, is getting all the other not-to-be-missed attractions like Universal, Sea World, Orlando Eye, Legoland and more.

Choose accommodations that are nearby everything. Affordable and spacious, Enclave Suites is notrorious for being young kid-friendly. When the younger kids just can't keep up you’re going to want a good shuttle service to promptly return you back to a place like home. Rooms come with generous kitchens for preparing meals when you’ve had it with theme-park junk food. This hotel also has a grocery delivery service that’ll bring ingredients straight to your suite! It also has an arcade and a game room. Enclave Suites is part of the staySky Hotels & Suites portfolio which offers military discounts of  20%.

Another of the staySky properties in Orlando and very centrally located is  Lake Buena Vista Resort Village. It's larger and rooms start at about $100 (which doesn't include the discount!) It's a great place for parents to get pampered at the world class spa. Drop the kids off at the staySky kids club and keep them entertained. Better yet, take them to an attraction all its own- this hotel has it’s very own Pirate-Themed Pool as well as on-site tennis courts, playground, game center. There's a host of on-site dining options as well. Make sure you bring valid military I.D. to the front desk when you check in.

It always pays to do your research beforehand of course. Call ahead and inquire about current deals and specials. Off-site hotels have abundant offerrings for parks and attractions, in their partnerships with them. Never assume you can only buy Disney tickets only at Disney World for example. Pack your sunscreen, pack your kids and make your plans to go south this winter!
