I'm about to start a new government job that is out of state; they are not going to pay for the move. I wanted to know what kinds of things should I track for deductions on next year's taxes. I understand that you can deduct mileage but what if I have to take more than one trip? What if I have to use more than one vehicle? I read that you can deduct hook up for utilities, which utilities are they referring to? What about hotel stay if I have to make more than one trip? Maintenance on vehicle preparing for move? I'd like to keep track of these deductions and others to see if they total more than the standard deduction. Thanks in advance!
