My husband transferred from the Marines to the Army in 1962. That's when we heard of USAA. But back then only officers could belong. So a few years later when he graduated from OCS one of the first things we did was join. Now our kids belong (some are military) and we are still members ourselves. BTW, one of my kids (a Coast Guard Officer) said he deplores the dishonesty in government, but isn't surprised. But, he says, he would be really shocked and disappointed if he found someone dishonest in USAA. I think that, and the knowledge and service of the people who work for USAA speaks volumes about why we all stay.
