I recently had the pleasure of attending the National Military Spouse Network, Military Spouse Career Summit presented by USAA in DC last week and would like to share some of the behind the scenes action that was going on to help ensure military spouse entrepreneurs have the tools and resources needed to build or expand their business.
Employment in the military spouse community has been a leading issue for quite some time. Why? Military spouses carry many unique talents which are extremely valuable in the career force, and what they are in need of is a network where they are able to build their professional presence in the corporate community, and learn to market themselves effectively.
The Military Spouse Career Summit does just that, by bringing together military spouse entrepreneurs and organizations. The MSCS offers solutions by exploring portable career options through networking with milspouse-friendly employers, employment experts, and fellow military spouses who have built their own careers and businesses.
The Military Spouse Career Summit presented by USAA kicked off on Friday, October 13th in Springfield, Virginia. Military spouses from various backgrounds were in attendance and eager to connect with other business owners.
USAA AVP of Military Affairs, Michael Kelly, opens up the event and shares how USAA continues to support military spouse entrepreneurs since the very first summit seven years ago.
Business boot camp time! Military spouses participate in an elevator pitch refresh, helping entrepreneurs to create a more engaging conversation with others by getting away from the traditional method.
Sue Hoppin, founder of NMSN, shares her vision on why she wants to help military spouses connect and be successful business professionals.
The USAA team present at the event was available to answer questions and provide support and resources to military spouse entrepreneurs.
Attending a professional development or a networking event just for military spouses helps take the online connections military spouses have offline and in person. Building those in person relationships can be very important in helping to create a support system for military life. Here are just two upcoming events that are bringing military spouses together. If you are near these areas, take the time to research the agenda and attend!
