Always go with a nationwide carrier like Atlas Van Lines, Budd Van Lines or United Van Lines. As tempting as it may be to try and save every nickel possible by using a smaller carrier, you stand a big chance of regretting it in the end. Moving is stressful enough for most people. The last thing you want is to have an independent carrier trying to take advantage of you. They are notorious for it. It's not uncommon for small household goods carriers to have several lawsuits against them at any given time.

I have almost always used U-Haul. I am presently moving from FL. to NC and I rented a 26ft. box truck with a drive on car carrier. I swear by U-Haul.

Have you ever seen those ABF Trucks? They have you pack and load your own stuff, then they will haul it. I'm not sure how it works, but it seems like it would be more cost effective...
