Back in 1966 2 things happened to me that brought me together with USAA. I was a 22 year old with a wife and small child at the time and Nationwide would not cover me any longer due simply to my age. I had been with them for 6 years or more through my father. At the same time I was selected for the NESEP program which sent me to Miami of Ohio on active duty to get my degree and upon completion, a commission as a 2ndLt. Someone mentioned USAA but said it was only for Officers. I called and talked to them and they said since I was in a program that would lead to my commissioning I was eligible. I have been with USAA ever since and have always been grateful for the moment we came together.
