declining rental car insurance

Hi, @WildBillDono. Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance is often provided by credit card companies, including USAA Federal Savings Bank. This insurance waiver provides supplemental coverage for most rental cars when rented under a contract from a commercial car rental company, and the credit card is used to reserve and pay the entire rental.

  • The coverage generally includes payment for the lesser of the cost to repair or replace a damaged or stolen rental vehicle, up to its full value.
  • Some cards, not all, may also provide payment or reimbursement for damage or theft related charges, such as towing, reasonable charges as supported by the car rental company for loss of use, and reasonable administrative fees.
  • The credit card may not cover additional fees charged by the rental car company, so members will need to consider if they would like to purchase the Collision Damage Waiver/Loss Damage Waiver, as offered by the rental car company.  The CDW/LDW typically covers these expenses, but each claim and policy would need to be evaluated on its own merits to make that determination. .
  • Credit Card benefit information can be located at www.usaa.com/cardbenefits
