What happens if you dont use your car that much and you dont pay insurance for a year?

Great questions @Stri51785. There are a few things to consider here. If you have a loan on your vehicle, the lienholder generally requires that you carry comprehensive and collision coverage for the life of the loan to protect their asset. If the lienholder finds that you do not have insurance on the vehicle, they can force place coverage which can be very expensive. The second thing to consider is that all states have minimum liability insurance requirements if your vehicle is registered in the state. Some states provide their residents with the option to 'take their vehicle off the road' or make it inactive for a time, but you definitetly want to verify the process with your state's motor vehicle department. The last thing to consider is that if you cancel your insurance for a year and you decide you need insurance again, your rate will likely be higher due to the gap in insurance coverage. If you have more specific questions about your situation, we always recommend you chat with us or call us. - Heather
