By Trent Templer,
Certified Financial Planner® Practitioner and Wealth Manager at the Tysons Corner USAA Financial Center
For three years, I’ve provided financial guidance to USAA members who range from active-duty military to retired persons, and during this time, I’ve watched our Wealth Management office of only a few advisors grow into a team of nearly 20. As we move into the new Tysons USAA Financial Center, it’s apparent that our growth in Northern Virginia is fueled by the value members place on in-person financial discussion and advice.
Having separated from the Navy in 2006, I understand USAA members’ concerns, and what I enjoy most about my role as a wealth manager is being able to meet members where they are in their financial journeys. Learning about their goals, I help them to understand the complex planning issues that impact their financial security. This work is particularly meaningful to me because this local interaction develops lasting relationships.
As I work with members, we often find connections and “small world” coincidences along the way. For example, I recently met a couple concerned about the impact of their son’s pending college decision on their retirement savings. For their son, the choice came down to attending a public university or a private institution with the possibility of a ROTC scholarship. As it turns out, the family lives less than a mile from my childhood home, and their son attends the same high school that I did. Having faced a similar education decision myself, I was able to share my experience with them, and they were able to relax and share additional information with me. I provided them with information that could help them to make a more informed and hopefully less stressful college decision.
Having helped address their college concerns, I’ll soon be meeting them at the new Tysons Financial Center to discuss some in-depth investment and retirement planning. When they arrive for our next meeting, I’ll happily introduce them to our expanded Financial Center and explain our full suite of capabilities. As they see the inspiring pictures on the wall, meet our Banking and Property & Casualty member service representatives and witness our cutting-edge technology, I’m confident they will understand USAA’s commitment to serving our members in the greater Washington, D.C., metro area for generations to come.
It is my privilege to serve this family and other USAA members where they are and help take them where they want to go. Welcome to the new Tysons Financial Center.
