Im PCS'ing to TX and looking at 1st time buying a home since I will probably retire there later. A broker I talked to said that I have to be on the ground in TX before the VA or a lender will approve me to start the paper. Is this correct?

That is not true, if you go through the movers advantage program through USAA, they will put you in contact with a realtor. We were looking at houses 6 months before we got here to texas. Also shop around for mortgage rates, USAA has high rates. They gave us 4.25 and we got a 3.75 through someone else.
