I'm thinking of renting out a room in my home. Will this affect my homeowners insurance?

Homeowner2017 - That's a great question! I'm happy to engage a specialist in our insurance department for further assistance. What would be a good time for someone to contact you? - Tricia

Oh, no, no, NO!!

Dear Homeowner2017,

I PLEAD you to NOT look toward USAA for ANY type of insurance, where it's going to involve RENTERS POLICIES or VALUABLE PROPERTY POLICIES.

PLEASE simply use a different insurance company, because GOD FORBID if anything (and, I mean ANYTHING!) happens where you may actualy NEED to file a claim, you will find that the ONLY service USAA is a halfway decent one is for auto insurance.

PLEASE!!! Allow "me" to be a living testament as to the advice I'm BEGGING you to take.

I have had renters and vpp policies, and been a member since 1991!!

I've had reason to file ONE CLAIM after my home was not only burglarized, but vandalized... HOMEOWNER2017, USAA  will do ANYTHING to justify with NOT paying this claim.

Just, trust me... PLEASE don't throw your money away, as that's precisely what you'd be doing if ANYTHING ever happened to cause you to turn to them for actual HELP!!

Most sincerely,

Jame' Ledes
