Does co-applicant need to be a dependent or USAA member?

Im considering purchasing a home with my partner. We are not married and she is not a USAA member. Can she be considered as a co-applicant for a mortgage?

The only way that works is if you are legally married.

Thank you for your inquiry on a co-applicant. Most USAA Mortgage loans will considered a non-married individual as a co-applicant as long as they will be listed as an owner on the property. However, a VA Mortgage loan specifically does not allow a non-married individual as a co-application. We hope you found that information helpful. If you have more questions, please feel free to contact us directly.
