Building a home but need to buy land

Maybe I am over thinking it but we would like to build a small house but we do not have land yet. Will a VA loan cover the cost of land with intention to build a house? What would we need to prove that for a VA loan ?

I'm looking at purchasing a residential lot to build a home on within the next 2 years. Does USAA or the VA allow a VA loan to purchase land?

I went through a local credit union for a land loan and was successful. You could also look into the USDA Rural Development Loan program. Good luck.
