After the hurricanes, a lot of insurance companies were pulling out of home insurance in certain areas. The insurance commissioner at the time decided that companies would have to insure everyone or no one. So while we were grandfathered in for our homeowners, when we left the state, we couldn't use USAA when we rented out the house. Not sure if that is still in effect but it might add some insight.
