USAA Visa track's Gun Sales?

I read that Visa and Mastercard want to flag purchases made at gun stores, especially firearms and ammo, but not all banks are going along with this.   Will USAA track firearm-related purchases with a special merchandise code?

Very important question J Dennis.  I am not in favor of anyone "tracking" supposed free citizens for any purpose and especially when it comes to a constitutional right.
Bullying and intimidation of those exercising their God given rights is never acceptable.

Hello @J Dennis and thank you for reaching out to us. We are assessing the International Organization for Standardization announcement about the approval of a new merchant code for gun and ammunition retailers.  ~Sarah

I think that a commitment from USAA NOT to incorporate those codes is important because it effectively creates a registry of gun owners, which subjects them to social and, potentially, economic or physical abuse.  To think that the information won’t get out is foolish and disrespectful of members and their safety.  SCOTUS has already determined that a registry is unconstitutional.  Appropriate information is automatically collected on form 4773 which the retailer maintains with severe penalties for abuse.  Criminals aren’t going to use credit cards to buy from legitimate stores, etc. and the buyer has to pass a background check for every purchase except for those with concealed carry permits who have gone through an extensive background check and are tested on the laws and have demonstrated safety precautions and marksmanship skills.  USAA wants members trust.  USAA needs to reciprocate that trust to its membership and protect them.

Was there any resolution to this discussion Sarah?

That's a great question, @8722screwsme - We are not considering measures to prevent our members from making legal purchases from gun and ammunition retailers. - Cathleen

Mr. woke is working this.
