I am a new member and did not realized when I switched that USAA puts a hold on every single check you deposit. I called last night at 6:54p to ask if a check would be honored even though I had funds on hold waiting to be cleared. The rep told me yes. I wrote the check and this morning get an alert for insufficient funds. Livid... and upset bc they are not open yet. Problem was that it was close to closing time and the rep wanted to go home so she gave me a quick bs answer.

Sorry that happened to you.

I haven't had a problem with holds on checks. My paycheck is electronically deposited, and the funds are available immediately. Same with checks I deposit via mobile deposit. I can understand though why they would place a hold on a personal handwritten bank check - with so much check fraud it is in everyone's best interest to verify the money is indeed real and it's not just a fraudlent check. If they were to make the funds available immediately, and then it turns out the check is fake, it would cost them and you alot of money.

If you have an account with another bank, I would suggest you link it electronically to your USAA account. Once it has been verified, you can wire money back and forth with no waiting period.
