Over the years I recommend usaa to all that will listen. Today that stops. After earning my money the hard way, digging ditches, I deposited my checks. Usaa decided to hold my money for one week. They have never done this before and say they can do nothing about it. Now I will have insufficient funds. Time to look for a new bank.


I have had that happen to me so many times that's why I opened a account through another bank. They should really work on that because my other bank only holds my money till the next morning. And that's at the latest

Thank you Tara, I submitted a complaint. I really hope this gets fixed soon. I know this will push away a lot of customers.
USAA will restrict your ability to use their bank--even your own money-at their discretion. It could take 6 phone calls to find out why. I am convinced they no longer value all customers equally. That is why Imam joining those who are moving all assets to another institution. USAA is no longer special.

This scenario just happened to me, as well--made an ATM deposit yesterday, funds are still on hold today. After a phone call and prolonged hold time (unusual for USAA), no resolution was reached. As we need the funds for a down payment, we will have to cancel an appointment to purchase a vehicle this evening, at considerable inconvenience to us (will need to make additional work and child care arrangements to make do with one car and finalize vehicle purchase another time).This is after a similar situation happened two years ago, at which time I was able to place a simple call and have the hold removed. I have never, in my 35 years+ interaction with USAA (my parents were members, and I have done all my own insurance, banking and finance through USAA since the age of 15), experienced such a dearth of customer service. This is not your dad's USAA.

I just had the same thing happen to me. Sad part is I called yesterday and asked about depositing the check (Payroll not personal)  before I even went to deposit it. I feel like that's information I should have been provided when I called. Now I'm up the creek without a paddle. I was using it for rent and I was thinking I'd deposit it and it'd take a day when I saw it was on hold but now I know I won't have access to my money until Saturday...a day after my rent is due. . I've been with a two major banks and it NEVER takes long before I have access. Unhappy is an understatement for me. I'm extremely disappointed
