Just as I have read many others posting about the same thing, I felt it was necessary to do the same so hopefully someone as USAA will pull their head from their rear and get things right before I and many others begin to bank else where. I as a military member and federal employee have been affected by the lack of competency the congressional leaders have displayed currently as well as in the past. When I was affected in 2013 USAA graciously offered me assistance and with the short time I was furloughed I did not need to use it. Now going on 3 weeks of not working right after the holiday season, I am being informed that USAA has deemed that only Coast Guard and NOAA have been affected. I am truly disappointed that 1) USAA has poorly trained their employees as to how to answer questions in regards to the government shutdown assistance, and 2) USAA has decided to only offer assistance to a small group of its affected members. I will say that I do not currently need this assistance, but would like to have the option if it becomes necessary. USAA please get it together and do the right thing. Make this offer to all affected or none!! I will be looking for services elsewhere in the meantime and giving USAA the same consideration they have given me.
@LeavingU s aa, We understand that some of our non-military members are impacted by the current government shutdown, but given the difficulty in determining each federal department’s approach and each member’s status, we’ve had to limit this offer to active duty Coast Guard and NOAA Corps employees. We encourage you to call us directly to discuss your specific situation, so we can help determine the best option for you. ~ Lori C
The response from USAA Social Service is BS. If your direct deposit goes to USAA they know exactly who pays you and letters can be obtained to confirm status. Plain and simple, USAA is not the bank most of us joined decades ago. They used to be credit union that served the unique needs of military and prior military customers. Now they are something else entirely. The changed to USAA over the last ten years have led them to forget where they came from.
I work for the another governement agency and we are part of the Government Shutdown. I have a letter to get a break on Bill payments and our mortgage that was provided to us by DOJ. Is this something I can send for review by your leadership to determine if and how you can help? My husband and I have been with USAA for over 15 years and I would hope that there would be some consideration to waive our payments on USAA loans for the months we are out of work.
@Federal Employee, Thank you for reaching out. I have received your message and will respond back to you shortly. Thank you for your patience while I look into your inquiry. ~ Lori C.

That response is unacceptable and clearly asinine as most of us have official agency letters which would easily confirm our non-paid status. I would much rather and frankly respect it more if you just said you didn’t care of our hardships and would much rather fill your pockets while we are down. My family has been banking with USAA for over 30 years and as many have stated this too will be ending soon. Totally unacceptable with blatant and clear disregard of its members, but that seems to be the norm now a days.
@IzzyPR, I appreciate your 9 years of membership and your family's trust in USAA for over 30 years. We are sorry to hear you are disappointed. We will pass your feedback along to the appropriate team. ~ Marco
