After talking with several military spouses on the subject of R&R (Rest and Relaxation) or for you Navy spouses, a port call, I'm convinced it is the one thing we look forward to more than anything during a long deployment.

I recently had a friend meet her husband for his R&R in Europe. I just saw her two weeks prior to her trip and she was thrilled at the thought of the adventure! But, I kid you not when I say; she had not purchased her plane ticket yet. As we all know, "dates are subject to change". I can share with you she did eventually purchase her plane tickets and reunite with her husband. I've had the privilege of taking a virtual vacation through her photos and videos of them visiting the Amalfi Coast of Italy, including Sorrento, Capri, then Sicily, and just a few days ago Rome. They are smiling and enjoying fabulous Italian meals, experiencing the sights, sounds and tastes of a new country. I am inspired.

This brings me to a new series I'd like to start here on the blog. I'd like to offer ideas and suggestions to our community members on how to spend there next Rest and Relaxation period. I realize not everyone can take a 10-day trip to Europe, many will choose a stay-cation and that's okay too. Whatever the adventure, and it is an adventure to be reunited with your spouse after months and months of separation, the planning process and experience is something I think we can all learn from. My goal is to uncover some unique ideas to spend this amazing time together. We will also offer tips on how to save up to enjoy such an adventure.

However, I'm going to need your help. Here is what I'm looking for:

  • Where did you go on your Rest and Relaxation time or Port Call?
  • What was the most surprising part of the time together?
  • Did you fly Space-A and how was that experience?
  • Did you and your husband choose not to take R&R? Why not?
  • What advice do you have for other military spouses currently planning R&R time?

I'll be writing about this topic again in the next weeks and will share with our readers select insights and advice. Until then, happy vacation shopping and planning! I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
