Military Spouse Appreciation Day was first established back in 1984 by former President Ronald Reagan and is celebrated the Friday before Mother's Day in May.
Military spouses come from diverse backgrounds, vary in age, and experiences, yet all answer the call to serve by standing at the side of their service member. We are there during the highs and the lows. Military spouses are strong, loving, selfless, resilient and fiercely loyal.
I asked a couple of my military spouse blogging friends just who they were thankful for this Military Spouse Appreciation Day and here is what they had to say:
"During some of the hardest moments in my life, my friend Bianca always seems to know what to say. There is never a moment in my life that I feel like I can't talk to her or pick up the phone at any moment. Every military spouse should come equipped with a friend like that. I can't think of a tougher weapon to have when combating some of the challenges life throws at you." – Angela C. –Homefront United
"On this Military Spouse Appreciation Day, I would like to express my gratitude for my friend Donna, a seasoned milspouse who welcomes everyone with an open mind, heart, and arms. I met her when visiting my husband at his first (unaccompanied) duty station. She had no qualms about socializing and welcoming a brand new spouse, despite the fact that her husband had been in for over 30 years and held a high profile position in country. I feel so blessed to have her as a milspouse role model and a friend. I can only hope that everyone has their own Donna in their military communities!" – Erin C. –Aim High Erin
Bianca and Donna sound like amazing friends. Do you have a Bianca or Donna in your life? I encourage you today to reach out to those spouses that are special to you and let them know how their friendship and support have strengthened your ability to successfully navigate this military lifestyle.
As we celebrate Military Spouse Appreciation Day, hug a military spouse and let us all be a source of encouragement to one another. After all when that boat leaves the pier, when that plane takes off, we are in this together and we ARE stronger together.
Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Enjoy it! Cheers to YOU!
