Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. - Confucius

Often the alone time we have during a deployment can give us just the time we need to reflect on our current situation and set new goals. When my spouse is away from home for long periods of time I find myself dreaming more about possibilities and plans for the future. It's no secret I tend to have major job transitions during this time. This decision is both exciting and frankly, a little scary.

How are you spending this deployment? Are you thinking about looking for a job, or considering a job/career change? If so, below is information on how to do just that!!

There are many programs available to help military spouses navigate the job-hunting process. There are classes available on-base that teach us how to build an effective resume, help us sharpen our interview skills and even steps on how to land a federal job. There is the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) which features a robust and easy to use website where you can search for jobs with military friendly employers, get advice from experts, and even download resume templates. There are also hiring fairs happening right now all across the country geared towards the military service member who is transitioning or retiring and is even open to their spouse! Taking the steps to create and improve your resume along with participating in a hiring fair filled with potential employers who are specifically looking to hire military spouses is an amazing opportunity for you to seize!

One such opportunity is the Hiring our Heroes Career Fairs, presented by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's National Chamber Foundation. They have scheduled over 175 hiring fairs, and chances are they coming to a city near you!

If you are even thinking about job-hunting here is what you need to know about the Hiring Our Heroes Hiring Fairs:

The Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Program goal is..."simple; allow spouses to pursue their dreams, instead of spending their lives trying to catch up to their peers".

Thank you so much for posting this! My fiance and I are getting married 4 days after the fair at Fort Bliss, and he deploys a few weeks after our wedding. I've been unable to get hired here in El Paso because I'm not bilingual - so knowing there are employers specifically looking for military spouses in our area gives me so much hope! Thank you again!

You bet! Finding new employment after moving is always so hard and requires creativity and tenacity. We've upgraded our community platform and your comment snuck by me. I apologize for the delay. So glad you are here and sharing.
