This time of year invites us to take a look at our routines and evaluate the ones that are working and the ones that are not. We must plan for success! Having a strategic plan on how we can experience life more fully is the first step in reaching the goal of getting fit.
Are you committing to getting fit in 2013?
I recently wrote about how I was putting my fitness goals at the top of my priority list. If you are joining me, a good place to start is a to visit your local base fitness center. Here are some of the services you might find there that are featured at my base gym:
Your gym may have more or less options. They may offer Zumba® and yoga classes for a small fee per class or even childcare. The only way to know for sure is to make an appointment with yourself and go check it out! Look for your local Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) department on Facebook for updates that highlight upcoming classes and events.
I had the chance to ask some military spouses their thoughts on the advantages of using the base gym. Here is some of what they had to say:
"I use the base gym a couple times a week in addition to my Crossfit classes. I love that it is free! My best tip for success is to just show up! 85% of the gym is just getting there...once you are there, you are going to get it done!" – Whitney D.
"I also find that I stay more dedicated to my routine if I take the fitness classes. It takes the pressure off having a workout plan when I go to the gym and it is a great opportunity to make friends." Briana Hartzell PCS Community Manager
"I never used the base gym in California, although it was SO nice and new. I lived too far from base to make using it reasonable. Now in NC, I just started using the gym there and I love not having to pay. I started doing Zumba®; which is new to me. My best advice is to get a gym buddy and make a plan, and then stick to it like it's a job. No ifs ands or butts!" – Sara V. – Charting New Territory
